Question 2

What are lab grown diamonds?

Accepted Answer

Lab grown diamonds are - chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds. The only difference is where they come from. Instead of forming beneath the earth's surface over billions of years, lab grown diamonds are created in an advanced scientific facilities using CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) process wherein a carbon-rich gas is used to grow a diamond crystal layer by layer in a controlled chamber. The result is a diamond that is 100% real, the same hardness, the same brilliance, the same fire, and the same forever. At Carat Years, we work exclusively with premium lab grown diamonds because we believe extraordinary diamonds shouldn't cost neither the earth nor your pocket, literally or figuratively.

Question 3

Are Carat Years diamonds certified?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Every diamond at Carat Years comes with a certificate from a recognised and trusted gemmological laboratory. Our diamonds are certified by IGI (International Gemmological Institute). Each certificate details the diamond's 4C’s: Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat weight, hence, giving you complete transparency and confidence in every purchase. Your certificate is your assurance that what you receive is exactly what we promise. Because trust, like diamonds, should be unbreakable.

Question 4

How are lab grown diamonds sustainable?

Accepted Answer

Choosing a lab grown diamond is the most conscious choices a jewellery buyer can make today. Why, you ask. Because you opt for minimal environmental disruption when you choose lab grown diamonds. Traditional diamond mining involves large-scale excavation that displaces soil, disrupts ecosystems, water wastage and causes significant land degradation. Lab grown diamonds require no mining whatsoever hence, leaving landscapes untouched and planet’s beauty intact.
Not only this, the energy required to grow a diamond in a lab is a fraction of what large-scale mining operations consume, minimising carbon footprint. Lab grown diamond production takes place in controlled environments with no impact on surrounding ecosystems. Lab grown diamonds are 100% traceable and entirely free from the ethical concerns associated with conflict or blood diamonds. You always know exactly where and how your diamond comes from.

We at Carat Years, not only believe but practice responsible luxury, where sustainability isn't a trend or another buzz word, but a value. We believe that luxury should not come at a price paid by the planet.
Wear it with pride. Wear it with a purpose.

Question 5

Do lab grown diamonds look different from mined diamonds?

Accepted Answer

No. Lab grown diamonds are visually, chemically, and structurally identical to mined diamonds. They have the same features such as
•	Brilliance - the same breathtaking sparkle and light reflection
• Fire - the same dispersion of coloured light
• Hardness - rated 10 on the Mohs scale, just like mined diamonds
• Crystal structure - pure carbon atoms arranged in the same diamond cubic formation.
Even the world's most experienced gemmologists cannot tell the difference between a lab grown and a mined diamond with the naked eye. Specialised equipment is required to detect the difference and even then, it comes down to the growth process, not quality or appearance. So, when someone asks "Is that real?" - the answer is a confident, sparkling yes. Same diamond. Smarter choice.

Question 7

Are Lab Grown Diamonds the same as synthetic diamonds or moissanite?

Accepted Answer

No. Moissanite and cubic zirconia may resemble diamonds visually, but they are entirely different gemstones with distinct chemical compositions and physical characteristics. Lab-grown diamonds, on the other hand, are genuine diamonds created in advanced laboratory environments. They possess the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as mined diamonds, offering identical brilliance, durability, and authenticity. Even the world's most experienced gemmologists cannot tell the difference between a lab grown and a mined diamond with the naked eye.

Question 8

Do Lab Grown Diamonds also have colour and clarity categorisations like natural diamonds?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are evaluated using the same internationally recognized 4Cs as natural diamonds - Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat Weight. This ensures consistent quality standards and allows you to assess a diamond's beauty and value with confidence.
